Raritan River Hat

A cozy, cabled homage to the winding footpath along the banks of the Raritan River in Middlesex County, New Jersey. Perfect for a winter walk in nature or grab a cup of coffee & a buttered roll from the corner deli. (One size: fits most adults (approx. 22” around).
Materials
Super Bulky yarn (6) - I used Lion Brand’s Wool-Ease Thick & Quick: “Charcoal” colorway
Light yarn (3) - I used Lion Brand’s Touch of Angora: “Ecru” colorway
Needle sizes I used: US 11 & US 13 circular needles, 16”
Gauge 5sts = 1 inch
Instructions
With US 11, CO 58 using Long-tail cast-on method. Mark BOR and join to knit in the round.
Work K1, P1 rib pattern for 8 rows in the round.
(Begin next row with US 13 needle)
K around 3 rows then work 1st cable chart
(Written instructions: P7, C4F, P7, C4F, P12, C2F, K3, C2F, K1, C2F)
Work around even (Knit the K’s and Purl the P’s) for 6 rows.
Then work the 2nd cable chart (reversed cable twists, otherwise the same as the 1st chart. (Written instructions: P7, C4B, P7, C4B, P13, C2B, K3, C2F, K1, C2F)
Work around even for 6 rounds.
Repeat 1st cable chart.
Work around even for 6 rounds.
CROWN
(You can opt for Double-pointed needles, but I used the Magic Loop method with my circular needle when I needed to.)
1st Decrease row: Work 3 stitches, K2tog* repeat until end of rou, nd. (47 sts. total - dec. 11 sts.)
Work even for the next row.
2nd Decrease row: Work 2 stitches, K2tog* repeat until end of round. (36 sts.total - dec. 11 sts.)
Work even for the next row.
3rd Decrease row: Work 1 stitch, K2tog* repeat until end of round. (24 sts.total - dec. 12 sts.)
Work even for the next row.
4th Decrease row: K2tog around til end of round. (12 sts. total - dec. 12 sts.)
Cut 6-7 inch tail and weave in through the remaining stitches using a yarn needle.
Wear it with Jersey pride, cuffed or not. You do you.
